Gr. 3:
This week a girl chose Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, by Dr. Seuss.

Gr. 2:
We read the final chapter of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We celebrated by eating Turkish delight!

Gr. 1:
We also read Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, by Dr. Seuss.

Gr. K:
We read Arrow to the Sun, by Gerald McDermott. This is an Indian folk tale that came out in the 70s -- Caldecott winner 1978 . Although this book is pretty abstract, the kids really love it.
Teachers, check out this blog: American Indians in Children's Literature.

A Day in the Library -- Grades K28 -- Part 13

Wednesday May 7, 2008

Gr. 7 and 8
The shooting of the claymation project couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Next week we will post the two videos.

Gr. 6:
We planned for the next segment: Scorpions. This one is going to be another fantastic addition to our series of news programs. We shoot next week.

Gr. 5
Check out Bremen Town Musicians Part 1 of 3 on YouTube!

Gr. 4:
This week a girl chose Now & Ben: The Modern Inventions of Benjamin Franklin, by Gene Barretta. I had read this book to the third graders earlier this year and they didn't like it -- but the fourth graders loved it.

Gr. 3:
This week a girl chose Rumpelstiltskin. She chose a modern adaptation with great illustrations but the ending was a little weak -- it ended with Rumpelstiltskin getting angry and flying out the window never to be seen from again. A few of the children knew the original version of Grimm’s fairy tale’s Rumpelstiltskin so I read that ending to the class -- Grimm’s version ends with Rumpelstiltskin stamping his right foot into the ground up to his knee and then grabbing his left foot and pulling himself in two. A great fairy tale ending!

Gr. 2:
We read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. One more chapter to go!

Gr. 1:
We read the Caps for Sale, illustrated by Esphyr Slobodkina. “You monkeys you!” We loved it.

Gr. K:
We read the Caps for Sale, illustrated by Esphyr Slobodkina. They also liked it.
